What the Victim Role Looks & Sounds Like

The Victim Role is a ๐’๐ฎ๐›๐œ๐จ๐ง๐ฌ๐œ๐ข๐จ๐ฎ๐ฌ ๐๐ซ๐จ๐ ๐ซ๐š๐ฆ. You were not born with it. You took on the program in response to life experience. Start Your LifeWriting Journey Here
to Reprogram Your Mind & Heal Your Inner Child

LifeWriting empowers you to rewrite the script playing in the background of your life. There are several well-respected authors and therapists already using self narrative or life writing as a therapeutic approach.

In this exercise I will take you through the first step in changing old subconscious programs, and give you a simple practice to begin rewriting your life story.

This process is simple yet powerful. LifeWriting can be deeply effective for everyone in reframing and shifting old limiting beliefs about who they are.

For more insights on healing old wounds and building resilience & self love, get your copy of The Real Self Love Handbook by Dr. Andrea Pennington.

Begin by writing down the chapters of your life

Begin with writing your life chapters -- the periods of time may include early childhood, middle childhood, teenage years, early adulthood, etc.

Or you could separate your life in chapters between major life events like: going to college, getting married, etc.

Create a Timeline for Each Chapter of Your Life (Using the worksheet above)

Once you've identified the chapters of your life, you will now create a timeline of life events for each chapter. The timeline should include entries of general and specific events that stand out in your memory which had an impact on you in some way, the approximate dates of particular scenes of importance, the locations, any other people or characters that were involved, and the outcomes of the event. You don’t have to list every little detail of your life, only the prominent scenes or events that may be impacting your sense of self and your ability to make change in the present.

Write about a low point in life

Select one low point in your life, or a situation that has had a negative energy and impact on you. Over the next 4 days, write down your deepest emotions and thoughts about that low point which has been influencing your life the most. In your writing, really let go and explore the event, the people, places and things involved.

Write about how it has affected your body, mind and emotions, including the symptoms, sensations and reactions. You might use an experience from your childhood, your relationship with your parents, people you have loved or love now.

Write continuously for 20 minutes a day for four days.

Summarize the Lessons

Write down a list of the assumptions and beliefs that you made as a result of that low point experience in your life. Can you see the ways that your power was diminished, taken or given away?

What beliefs about yourself did you take on? What beliefs about your place in the world did you adopt? Did you create an inner critic or judge?

Have there been other events or times in your life when these same feelings, experiences or beliefs showed up in another situation?

If you could go back and tell that younger version of yourself the lessons you learned, the mature awareness you have now, what would you say so that you could move forward in life whole, intact and powerful?
It may be helpful to listen to the Safe Place meditation *seen below* as you process your lessons.

Inner Child Healing

There may be a need for inner child healing if you find that there is a part of you that resists orย hangs onto the victim role.

Download and listen in as Dr. Andrea Pennington leads you through her Attunement Meditation process for healing your inner child in a safe, calm way. This guided meditation is described in depth inย The Real Self Love Handbook.

In this guided meditation you can call forth a younger version of you that may have been wounded, abused or made to feel not good enough. You will allow your inner child to be heard, understood and believed. You invite your inner child to express all of the pain, anger or frustration they have been carrying. Your inner child can also express what s/he needed or wanted, but never received.

You are invited to shower your inner child with acceptance, compassion and love or invite a Compassion figure to do this for you or with you.
